Încoronarea ca monarh a lui Charles al III-lea nu ar urma, în schimb, să aibă loc imediat după decesul reginei, respectându-se perioada de doliu şi pentru a permite organizarea festivităților pentru succesiunea la tron.
Ceremonia se va desfăşura la Catedrala Westminster și va fi condusă de arhiepiscopul de Canterbury, prima personalitate religioasă din cadrul Bisericii Anglicane şi al doilea lider al acesteia după monarhul britanic. Conform protocolului, în timpul ceremoniei, suveranul primeşte atributele regale – un sceptru şi coroana Sfântului Edward, fabricată în 1661 pentru încoronarea regelui Charles al II-lea, care este utilizată în mod tradiţional.
După ceremonia încoronării, o lungă procesiune se va desfăşura pe străzile din Londra.
În anul 1953, când a avut loc încoronarea reginei Elisabeta a II-a, au fost necesare pregătiri care au durat peste un an, informează AFP, potrivit Agerpres.
