Eurostat: România este pe ultimul loc în UE la reciclarea deșeurilor

Gestionarea și eliminarea deșeurilor pot avea un impact grav asupra mediului. Prin urmare, UE urmărește să reducă impactul asupra mediului și asupra sănătății prin îmbunătățirea utilizării eficiente a acestora.

Din 2004, cantitatea de deșeuri recuperată a crescut semnificativ (de la 870 de milioane de tone în 2004 la 1,221 de milioane de tone în 2020). Acest lucru înseamnă că ponderea valorificării în tratarea totală a deșeurilor a crescut semnificativ (de la 46% în 2004 la 60% în 2020).

În schimb, cantitatea de deșeuri selectate pentru eliminare a scăzut (de la 1 027 milioane de tone în 2004 la 808 milioane de tone în 2020). Astfel ponderea eliminării în tratarea totală a deșeurilor a scăzut la mai puțin de jumătate (de la 54% în 2004 la 45% în 2020).

În total, aproximativ 2,029 de milioane de tone de deșeuri au fost tratate în UE în 2020. Mai mult de jumătate (60%) au fost tratate în operațiuni de recuperare: reciclare (39% din totalul deșeurilor tratate), rambleu (15%) sau valorificare energetică ( 6%).

Restul de 40% a fost fie depozitat în gropi de gunoi (31%), incinerat fără a recupera energie (1%), fie eliminat în alt mod (8%).

Rate foarte mari de reciclare au fost înregistrate în Italia (83%), Belgia (74%), Slovacia și Letonia (ambele 64%).

Pe de altă parte, eliminarea prin gropi de gunoi a fost categoria de tratare predominantă pentru alte țări: România (93% depozit de deșeuri, 5% reciclare), Bulgaria (92% depozit de deșeuri, 8% reciclare) și Finlanda (84% depozit de deșeuri – 10% reciclare).
