Armata chineză a anunţat astăzi, în pofida apelurilor din partea Occidentului, că îşi va continua exerciţiile militare în apropiere de Taiwan, în semn de protest faţă de vizita preşedintei Camerei Reprezentanţilor din Congresul SUA, Nancy Pelosi, în insula revendicată de Beijing, relatează AFP şi Reuters, potrivit Agerpres.
China a început încă de joi, a doua zi după plecarea preşedintei camerei inferioare a Congresului american, exerciții militare fără precedent, desfășurate în şase zone extinse din imediata apropiere a Taiwanului. Exerciţii urmau să se încheie în cursul zilei de duminică, după ce mai fuseseră prelungite cu încă o zi, dar continuă şi astăzi, conform unui anunţ al armatei chineze.
Armata chineză a lansat cele mai ample exerciţii militare din istoria sa, trimiţând avioane de vânătoare, nave de război şi rachete balistice în jurul insulei Taiwan.
La rândul său, Taiwanul a anunțat astăzi că va porni exerciții militare asemătoare, în regiunea Pingtung. Pentru aceste exerciţii, vor fi desfăşuraţi câteva sute de soldaţi şi mai multe obuziere, a anunțat ministerul apărării din Taiwan, care a precizat, totodată, că astfel de exerciții militare erau deja programate cu mult timp înainte, și nu vin ca răspuns la exercițiile militare ale Chinei.
China consideră insula Taiwan ca fiind una dintre provinciile sale, pe care nu a reușit încă să o reunească cu restul teritoriului continental, de la sfârșitul războiului civil chinez din 1949. Taiwan, o insulă autoguvernată, nu este membru ONU, deoarece China s-a opus acestui demers. De asemenea, Taiwanul nu face parte din OMS și nici din alte organizații internaționale.
Pe de altă parte, SUA, care susțin că democrația trebuie sprijinită în insula Taiwan, au transmis că vizita lui Nancy Pelosi în Taiwan, întâmpinată cu ostilitate de China, nu are ca scop schimbarea liniei politicii externe americane, care fusese consfințită încă din anul 1979 și care recunoaște în continuare politica ”o singură China”.
