Aeroportul Internațional Băneasa, redeschis de astăzi pentru zborurile de linie

Aeroportul Internațional „Aurel Vlaicu” – Băneasa se redeschide, astăzi, cu ocazia aniversării a 110 ani de la inaugurare. Aeroportul a fost închis timp de 10 ani, începând din anul 2012, perioadă în care a trecut printr-un amplu proces de restaurare și modernizare, lucrările fiind finalizate anul trecut.

Terminalul Băneasa a fost restaurat aşa cum se afla în urmă cu 59 de ani, în 1952, fiind restaurată înclusiv marmura şi mozaicul de pe pardoseală, iar stâlpii au fost îmbrăcaţi în travertin. Au fost refăcute, de asemenea, și toate elemente arhitecturale din incinta aeroportului. „Acestea au fost completate cu tehnologie modernă de cel mai înalt nivel, inclusiv în ceea ce priveşte iluminarea cu led şi instalaţiile de sonorizare şi de climatizare”, a transmis, în 2021, la terminarea lucrărilor, conducerea Companiei Aeroporturi București.

Trei companii aeriene ar urma să asigure cursele de linie și de charter de pe Aerportul Băneasa. Spre deosebire de Aeroportul Otopeni, unde pasagerii trebuie să vină cu cel puțin două ore înainte de îmbarcare, la Băneasa timpul de aștepare va fi mai scurt, de sub o oră. Capacitatea proiectată este de 400 de pasageri pe oră, sosiri şi plecări, care vor fi primiți la cele cinci porți ale aerportului. Se estimează că, anual, aeroportul poate primi un milion de pasageri.

Aeroportul Băneasa și-a început activitatea în anul 1921, iar terminalul pentru pasageri a fost finalizat în 1952. Însă istoria sa începe cu mai mult timp în urmă, încă din anul 1912, când pe suprafața actuală – se întinde pe 128 de hectare – se afla un hipodrom particular, pe care, la diferite ocazii, se efectuau și zbouri cu avionul. În 1912, la inițiativa principelui George Bibescu, ia ființă Liga Aeriană Română, care a deschis la Băneasa o școală de pilotaj pentru piloții români. Sub auspiciile acestei ligi, aerodromul devine aeroport.

Până în anul 1970, când s-a dat în folosință Aeroportul Otopeni – Henri Coandă, Aeroportul Băneasa a fost singurul aeroport din Bucureşti şi singurul aeroport internaţional din România. Este considerat și al treilea cel mai vechi aeroport din lume, care este încă funcțional, după Aeroportul College Park, din Maryland, Statele Unite (1909) și cel din Hamburg, Germania (1911).
